Premier League Predictions - Gameweek 32
A look into our Premier League Predictions for Gameweek 32 and also Chat GPT for its opinion. We were pretty evenly matched last time out, although I took the bragging rights predicting Ipswich to defeat Bournemouth. But Chat GPT took it’s revenge, predicting a 1-1 draw between Southampton and Crystal Palace.
Apologies, the mid-week games last week also threw us off schedule slightly so there were no deeply insightful predictions for Gameweek 31, nevertheless you can find out Saturday Summarised here.
Right, that’s enough procrastinating from me, let’s dive into the predictions.
Man City vs Crystal Palace - Saturday 12:30
The early Saturday kick off sees us head to the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City host Crystal Palace. City’s inconsistent form leaves them going into this one in 6th place and in desperate need of three points to secure Champions League football next season, incidentally 5th position was confirmed to be a Champions League place this season. Erling Haaland remains injured for the hosts.
Palace, fresh off their derby win against Brighton, Palace will need to contend with suspensions to Nketiah and captain Marc Guéhi after a crazy flurry of red cards last week. Centre back Lacroix will also face a late fitness test.
The Etihad has been a happy hunting ground for Palace in the past, most famously their 3-2 victory there in the 18-19 season which saw one of the great Premier League goals when Andros Townsend fired home a volley from outside the box. They have demonstrated on numerous occasions that they can take points here against the greatest city teams. However, with the suspensions and injuries in defence, I do see them struggling to keep the hosts out.
Although, keep in mind that Palace are unbeaten in their last 10 premier league away outings.
Predictions:
I Predict: Manchester City 3-1 Crystal Palace
Chat GPT Predicts: Manchester City 3-1 Crystal Palace
(I promise I do mine first before asking Chat GPT! Great minds clearly think alike)
Southampton vs Aston Villa - Saturday 15:00
Southampton set the unwanted record of becoming the earliest ever relegated premier league side following their defeat to Spurs last week. Usually this can relieve a bit of stress on a team, so it will be interesting to see how they respond. In addition, Manager Ivan Jurić parted ways with the club in the week.
Villa of course played mid-week at PSG and would have been deflated by conceding a late goal which will leave them with a monumental task at Villa Park on Tuesday evening. No disrespect to Southampton but be prepared to see multiple changes to the Villa line up as they will surely have one eye on the reverse Champions League fixture in the week. A win for Villa will still be pivotal in their late surge up the table and boosting their hopes of European Football next season.
I Predict: Southampton 0-2 Aston Villa
Chat GPT Predicts: Southampton 1-3 Aston Villa
Nottingham Forest vs Everton - Saturday 15:00
Nottingham Forest are cruising towards a Champions League qualification next season, even more so given the mid-week confirmation of five places. Forest will boost confidence given their insanely good form against sides in the bottom half of the table this season, collecting 40 of a possible 42 points against them.
Everton however have an air of resilience about them under David Moyes and thought hard to secure a 1-1 draw against Arsenal last week. Everton have a good record at the City Ground, winning on 3 of their last 4 visits. They are also the draw specialists having drawn 6 of their last 8 and more games than any other side this season.
This one will be a close one to call, but I think the City Ground will be emotionally charged ahead of the final push towards Champions League qualification and this will help Forest get over the line.
I Predict: Nottingham Forest 1-0 Everton
Chat GPT Predicts: Nottingham Forest 2-2 Everton
Brighton vs Leicester - Saturday 15:00
Seagulls vs Foxes this Saturday. There’s no such thing as a Seagull, it’s just a name given a species Gulls that live by the Sea. Now that random point is out the way, Leicester will certainly be hoping to SeeGoals (I’m so sorry) themselves on Saturday having failed to find the net against Newcastle on Monday. They appear all but relegated 15 points adrift of Wolves and with a significantly worse goal difference, in fact, if Wolves were to win and Leicester to lose, the best they could do would be match Wolves’ tally.
Brighton have lost their last two games which has seen them slip away from Champions League contention, but their is certainly hope with regards to the Europa League and you never know what a run of late wins may do for their ambitions next season. Given their attacking prowess and Leicester seemingly giving up on the season, I think this could get ugly.
I Predict: Brighton 5-0 Leicester
Chat GPT Predicts: Brighton 2-1 Leicester
Arsenal vs Brentford - Saturday 17:30
Ahhh, finally I can talk about Arsenal and it gives me an excuse to show that Rice freekick one more time…
It will be interesting to see the physical and emotional toll that Tuesday’s triumph over Real Madrid will take on Arsenal and how they respond against Brentford this weekend. Similar to Villa, I think we can expect to see an array of changes from Mikel Arteta as he looks to protect players ahead of the return leg.
Brentford are always tricky customers, however their season has stagnated somewhat as they appear destined for a mid-table finish this season, they have had a week of rest however and Thomas Frank has confirmed no new injury concerns.
I Predict: Arsenal 2-1 Brentford
Chat GPT Predicts: Arsenal 2-0 Brentford
Chelsea vs Ipswich - Sunday 14:00
Chelsea have gone from potential title contenders earlier in the season to finding themselves with an uphill battle to retain a Champions League position. They were able to make numerous changes and cruise to a 3-0 victory at Legia Warsaw last night so freshness should not be an issue. They were mightily frustrated by Brentford last time out and now find themselves level on points level on points with 5th placed Newcastle, who boast a game in hand.
It is worth noting that Chelsea are the only side to succumb to Ipswich at Portman Road earlier in the season following a 2-0 defeat, the Tractor Boys however will be gutted not to capitalise on their victory against Bournemouth, with a defeat to Wolves last time out making survival a near impossibility. As I said when I correctly predicted Ipswich to beat Bournemouth, they are a much tougher nut to crack on their travels and could cause Chelsea some frustration, however I see the West Londoners getting over the line. Weirdly have a feeling we’ll also see Palmer find his form, I’ll leave you to decide whether that be Cole Palmer or Town Goalkeeper Alex Palmer.
I Predict: Chelsea 3-1 Ipswich
Chat GPT Predicts: Chelsea 2-0 Ipswich
Wolves vs Spurs - Sunday 14:00
Wolves welcome Spurs on Sunday having almost officially secured their premier league safety last week. I of course mean Spurs… All jokes aside, it was a huge win for Wolves who have been boosted by the form of Strand Larsen and will be further lifted by the return of Cunha for this one following suspension. Wolves won this game last season with a dramatic late turnaround.
Spurs will also be conscious of their midweek trip to Frankfurt after they somehow managed to not take a lead to Germany, missing numerous chances last night. Because of this and the lack of jeopardy for Spurs in the league, I can see Wolves taking all the points in this meeting.
I Predict: Wolves 2-1 Spurs
Chat GPT Predicts: Wolves 1-2 Spurs
Liverpool vs West Ham - Sunday 14:00
Liverpool fell to defeat at Fulham last time out and will be keen to restore a high level of performance and positive outcome against West Ham on Sunday. Arsenal could be within 8 points of Liverpool when they kick off on Sunday, whilst still a significant gap, Liverpool will be unwilling to entertain any suggestions of a revitalised title race. Fans will no doubt be relived to learn of new deals for Salah and an imminent deal for Van Dijk this week, two key figures to their success.
West Ham are still yet to really impress under Graham Potter and identity remains unclear. There is not a huge lot to say about them at this stage as the club seem to be drifting towards a summer overhaul, by then they may possess more traits of a Potter side. They did secure a big result at Arsenal, but it will be a tough ask to replicate that here.
I Predict: Liverpool 3-0 West Ham
Chat GPT Predicts: Liverpool 2-0 West Ham
Newcastle vs Manchester United - Sunday 16:30
Viewers will be hoping for a much more exciting affair in the Sunday late afternoon kick off this week following a very dull Manchester Derby last Sunday. Newcastle vs Manchester United is typically a game that lives up to this billing. Newcastle have won 3 on the spin in the league and are flying with confidence following their League Cup victory last month.
United had a gruelling game with Lyon last night and again, the league has very little left to offer them. Onana has been the centre of attention this week following criticism from former United midfielder Matic, he did not do a lot to reduce this after making two costly errors in the week, it will be interesting to see how he responds and whether Amorin keeps faith in his first choice keeper.
I Predict: Newcastle 3-1 Manchester United
Chat GPT Predicts: Newcastle 2-1 Manchester United
Bournemouth vs Fulham - Monday 20:00
Firstly, well done if you’ve made it this far and that just leaves us with Bournemouth vs Fulham. Unfortunately for the Cherries, their form has taken a nose dive following some really impressive results and performances in and around Christmas. This has ultimately led them with very little hope of Europe next season. Perhaps some burnout given Iraola’s high intensity style and a carousel of injuries to manage throughout the season.
Fulham on the other hand are in a bizarre patch of form too, winning then losing then so on. They will surely be thrilled with their result over Liverpool in which they were rampant in the first half, if they can start like this again against a Bournemouth side low on belief and confidence, they should be able to get across the line.
I Predict: Bournemouth 1-2 Fulham
Chat GPT Predicts: Bournemouth 1-1 Fulham
